Grilled Cheese-Tomato Soup

OK, the cheese isn't grilled, but when the melted cheese puddles in the soup and is topped with toasty croutons, it sure makes one think of that great soup and sandwich combo!

Ingredients

can (19 oz) Progresso® Vegetable Classics tomato basil soup
2
packages (1.5 oz each) colby-Monterey Jack cheese blend cubes (individual size)
1/2
cup croutons, divided into 2 resealable sandwich-sized food storage plastic bags

SAVE ON THIS RECIPE!

Directions

  • 1 Heat soup as directed on can.
  • 2 For each serving, pour warm soup into small insulated bottle. Pack in lunch bag with cheese cubes, croutons and plastic spoon.
  • 3 At lunch time, add cheese cubes and croutons to soup.

i fully agree with Lylagirl and mst3000. .... i came here looking for old time tomato soup recipes made from the barest scratch of the scratch. you know, where you start with blanching the tomatoes and move on from there. this is ridiculous, and is no more than the directions off the can with croutons and melted cheese thrown in. .... give me a break !!! now,,,,,,, does ANYONE know how to make tomato soup from scratch basics ????? thanks, Pam

Those who critize this receipe miss the point. It is the classic reminder-receipe.I can never remember which cheeze to add. On a cold day, it would also be a good addition to a school luch that offers a basic hamburger or the like. The problem is that a child likely cannot go to her/his luch box an hour before lunch. If you were to use refrigrate cheese cubes and especially dry croutons, can they make it to lunch? And if you use plain tomato soup, how much and which spices can you add to expose your child to a range of spices?

Thanks for the idea, had forgotten about this little recipe. I'm old and alone so this is a great little easy meal for me. Also my granddaughter is a new bride and she hadn't heard of this before so it will go in her growing meal ideas.
