Try adding a can of sliced water chestnuts and you will be amazed how much better it is! I got that tip from a cookbook one time, and have done that ever since. The little crunch of the water chestnuts is just perfect with the rest of the ingredients. Just stir them into the mixture when you put it together.

You just can't go wrong with this dish if it's cold outside! More fried onions please! http://imunchie.com/thisheartdreams/munchies/green-bean-casserole

Great recipe! I much prefer this to the usual "milky" recipe that everyone seems to use. Loved that this was thick and hearty. I will use this recipe from now on.

This was good, but I think I like mine better. I use three of the larger cans of cut green beans (microwaved until they are tender alone with a small onion and medium bell pepper...both chopped). I add the pepper and salt and 6-8 pieces of microwaved bacon...before mixing with a mixture of cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup and if I make enough beans...a can of cream of celery soup. Usually I am feeding 16 to 20 for Thanksgiving. I top with a cup or two of graded cheese and bake for 40 minutes. Delicious

This recipe came in the nick of time ! I have always used the one offered by a soup company ... :o), but was not happy w/its "soupiness". This recipe corrects that problem. The Progresso soup is a creamier base. The elimination of milk and the increase of beans make it more stand alone instead of absorbing the topping to firm up. And the bread crumbs cut the fat and still add the crunch ! Arrived in time for my "carry dish" to the potluck. Thanks, Betty !
