Capture the flavor of gyros in these Greek-inspired beef burgers served in pita breads. They're a fun change from the typical hamburger and just as quick to grill!

Ingredients

1
lb lean (at least 90%) ground beef
1/2
cup crumbled herb-flavored feta cheese (2 oz)
1/4
cup chopped kalamata olives
1
tablespoon chopped fresh oregano leaves
2
teaspoons chopped fresh mint leaves
4
pita (pocket) breads (6 inch), cut in half to form pockets
1/2
medium cucumber, thinly sliced
4
thin slices red onion, cut in half
1
medium tomato, sliced
1/4
cup Greek Fat Free plain yogurt

Directions

  • 1 Heat gas or charcoal grill. In large bowl, mix beef, cheese, olives, oregano and mint. Shape mixture into 4 patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
  • 2 Place patties on grill over medium heat. Cover grill; cook 10 to 12 minutes, turning once, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160°F.
  • 3 Cut burgers in half. Fill each pita pocket with burger half, cucumber, onion and tomato slices; drizzle with yogurt.

Expert Tips

Serve with a Greek pasta salad and watermelon slices. Or if you're really in a hurry, your favorite potato chips will do just fine!
