Capture the flavor of gyros in these Greek-inspired beef burgers served in pita breads. They're a fun change from the typical hamburger and just as quick to grill!
lb lean (at least 90%) ground beef
cup crumbled herb-flavored feta cheese (2 oz)
cup chopped kalamata olives
tablespoon chopped fresh oregano leaves
teaspoons chopped fresh mint leaves
pita (pocket) breads (6 inch), cut in half to form pockets
medium cucumber, thinly sliced
thin slices red onion, cut in half
medium tomato, sliced
cup Greek Fat Free plain yogurt
Heat gas or charcoal grill. In large bowl, mix beef, cheese, olives, oregano and mint. Shape mixture into 4 patties, about 1/2 inch thick.
Place patties on grill over medium heat. Cover grill; cook 10 to 12 minutes, turning once, until meat thermometer inserted in center of patties reads 160°F.
Cut burgers in half. Fill each pita pocket with burger half, cucumber, onion and tomato slices; drizzle with yogurt.
Serve with a Greek pasta salad and watermelon slices. Or if you're really in a hurry, your favorite potato chips will do just fine!
