Ingredients

Double-Berry Sauce

1/3
cup maple-flavored syrup
2/3
cup raspberry jam or preserves
1
cup strawberries, cut into fourths

Whole Wheat Waffles

1
cup Original Bisquick™ mix
3/4
cup ground flaxseed or flaxseed meal
1/2
cup Gold Medal™ whole wheat flour
1/2
cup low-fat granola cereal
1 1/2
cups fat-free (skim) milk
3
tablespoons canola or soybean oil
2
eggs or 1/2 cup cholesterol-free fat-free egg product
1
container (6 ounces) Yoplait® strawberry low-fat yogurt (2/3 cup)

Directions

  • 1 Heat syrup and jam to boiling in 1 1/2-quart saucepan, stirring occasionally. Stir in strawberries; remove from heat. Keep warm.
  • 2 Heat nonstick waffle iron; spray with cooking spray before heating. Mix remaining ingredients in large bowl until blended.
  • 3 For each waffle, pour 1 cup batter onto center of hot waffle iron; close lid. Bake 2 to 3 minutes or until steaming stops and waffle is golden brown. Carefully remove waffle. Serve with sauce.

Expert Tips

“It is always hard to indulge my sweet tooth with something good for me. That's why I like these satisfying and refreshing pancakes with a sweet berry sauce—they are more like a treat than a breakfast.” Pat R.

If you’ve never used flaxseed before, purchase it in the grains section of the grocery store, and store it in the refrigerator. To get the most benefit, grind it just before using with a coffee grinder. Only about 1 teaspoon per day is what’s needed to lower cholesterol, so substitute a teaspoon of flaxseed for each serving for that amount of flour in your muffins, bread and cookies.
