Grandma Pat'sTurkey Stuffing

I have made this stuffing for over 45 years now. I rarely make any adjustments to it, as everyone seems to love it as it is.

1
pound Pork Sausage, browned & crumbled
1
medium Yellow Onion, diced
2
stalks celery, diced
1
pkg. or loaf bread cubes seasoned or unseasoned
1
whole egg slightly scrambled
milk, to soften bread cubes slightley
salt & pepper
sage to taste
2
tablespoons poultry seasoning
1
tablespoon sweet basil
1/4
cup melted butter
1
whole Granny Smith Apple, diced
  1. Brown sausage, add onion, celery and butter. Add salt, pepper, poultry seasoning, sweet basil, and sage to flavor. I like to do this mixture the day before, save all including sausage grease in refrigerator overnight. The day of stuffing your turkey, take out your sausage mix from day before. If using a prepackaged bread cubes (be sure to use cubes, not crumbs) there is usually a seasoning mix included. I find I like to add a little more of my own spices mentioned above. That's your personal choice. Go easy and you can test the flavoring after adding in the rest of the ingredients.
  2. Mix sausage mixture includining grease (it adds flavor and moisture), add spices as desired, beaten egg, and enough milk to slightly moisten, but not too soaked. Mix in apple. Salt & pepper inside cavity of turkey, stuff, and enjoy
