first time making gingerbread cookies and this recipe did not disappoint. I agree with the others that cardamom is what makes it stand out. It's expensive but worth it.

Cardamom is not available at a lot of places, so I used the same amount of nutmeg as a substitute. It turned out delicious, and the family all raved over it.

The best gingerbread I have ever eaten! The cardamom is definitely the ingredient that made these cookies. I had some problems with the dough because if the weather and ended up adding more flour to the dough and had to wait longer for them to set, but they were worth the wait.

Delicious, even without any frosting or candies added! And easy to make.

These are my FAVORITE Gingerbread cookies ever! BUT-I have a problem with them. They really spread out when I bake them (I've made them 3 or 4 years now). If I roll them too thick they don't bake properly. I have adjusted the baking time and rolled smaller cookies but I just can't seem to get them right. I'm considering baking them at 375 degrees for a shorter period of time this year. The cardamom is what MAKES these cookies. It is so good! You HAVE to find cardamom if you're going to make these--they just won't be as yummy without it (and it's expensive). These cookies are addicting!

These cookies are supper yummy and very easy to make. Works great with any cookie cutter (made mine with train cutters). Will be making these year round. As another reviewer advised, I also was unable to use the cardamom due to my local store not having any.

We stocked up on these for fear they would not be a hot seller during the spring and summer. We love them and anxious for the fall 2008 batches to come to supermarkets

I made gingerbread houses with this recipe. They turned out great! This gingerbread is also, the best I have ever tasted. I did however leave the cardamom out because our store did not have it.
