Giant Oven Burger

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds extra-lean ground beef
  • 1 small bell pepper, chopped (1/2 cup)
  • 1 small onion, chopped (1/4 cup)
  • 1 tablespoon prepared horseradish
  • 1 tablespoon yellow mustard
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup chili sauce or ketchup
  • 1 unsliced round loaf Italian or sourdough bread, 8 inches in diameter

    Heat oven to 350°F.
  • 2
    Mix all ingredients except chili sauce and bread. Press beef mixture in ungreased pie plate, 9x1 1/4 inches. Spread chili sauce over top.

    Bake uncovered 45 to 50 minutes or until no longer pink in center; drain. Let stand 5 minutes.

    Cut bread crosswise in half. Carefully place burger between halves. Cut into wedges.

  • Mix burger ingredients and place in the pie plate the night before. The next day, top with chili sauce just before baking.
  • Your favorite fixings might include sliced tomatoes or onions, leaf lettuce, pickles, purchased potato salad and chips.
