EXPERT TIPS

Expert Tips

If you plan to tote this cake to a picnic, bake it in a disposable foil pan. Then you don't have to carry home the dirty pan.

For an oatmeal-chocolate chip topping, cool cake 10 minutes; sprinkle with 1/3 cup miniature chocolate chips.

The name for this cake is completely misleading. This is nothing like a German Chocolate Cake... it's merely a not-very-chocolatey cake with a sweet oat topping.

carry a bottle (plastic) of caramel, butterscotch or chocolate sundae topping syrup to drizzle over cake just before serving to jazz it up and for a moister topping - almost like german chocolate icing.
