Ingredients

(1/2-inch-thick) slices French bread
1
tablespoon olive or vegetable oil
1/2
cup garlic and herb cream cheese spread
1/4
cup chopped green onions

Directions

  • 1 Place bread slices on ungreased cookie sheet. Lightly brush each with oil. Broil 4 to 6 inches from heat for about 1 minute or until light golden brown.
  • 2 In small bowl, combine cream cheese and green onions; blend well. Spread mixture on toasted bread slices. Return to broiler; broil 1 minute or until cream cheese bubbles.

Expert Tips

In Italian, "crostini" means "little toasts." To make them, a skinny loaf of Italian bread (baguette) is thinly sliced, brushed with oil and toasted in the oven.

Garlic and herb cream cheese spread is a soft cream cheese found alongside the regular cream cheese in the grocery store.

Toast the bread ahead of time. Cool the slices completely and store them in an airtight plastic bag. Just before serving, spread the crostini with the cream cheese mixture and broil them.
