Keep it cool and casual with a make-ahead beverage you tuck in the freezer.

I used this recipe with a twist. I do not like tequila, so substituted Grey Goose for the alcohol, and couldn't find any frozen cranberry concentrate, so I used fruit punch. I did add cranberry juice to the mixture along with pineapple juice and a little orange juice while omitting the lime juice. They turned out great, lots of fruity flavor, little alcohol taste, but this is the kind of drink that will sneak up on you after you've had a few.

I didn't have 24 hours available to get them to freeze in time so I put it in 5 plastic containers in the freezer. They all froze solid, so I think that was a mistake. Had to create the slush by a fast thaw which was a hassle. Subtle cranberry flavor. The lime was a predominant flavor & made me think of a regular margarita. Would be good for a hot summer afternoon. Made these for New Year's Eve, but we also made Mojito's which were the real hit of the party.

This sounds wonderful. My question to anyone who knows is how long does this remain slushy. Can you make a batch and keep it in the freezer for week?

I made this recipe with out the tequila and lime for a non-alcholic version for my kids. They absolutely LOVED it. I,too, had the problem if freezing too hard but thought it was due to the fact that I had left out the alcohol. I added a little lemon-lime soda when serving because the cranberry flavor was pretty strong. I can see this becoming a hit during the summer as well.

In answer to the question about length of freezing, I had mine in the freezer for 24 hours exactly and the outside layer of the drink was frozen solid, whereas the inside was still liquid. I was able to take a metal spoon and sturdy metal whisk to brake it all up to make the "slushy" drink. I'm not sure if left longer if the entire drink would freeze but if so, it would probably have a longer "shelf life" in the freezer. I used a cranberry / raspberry cocktail mix and it was very good. I don't like my drink very strong and this was just right for me. You may adjust the alcohol accordingly.

Like my Christmas cookies this is a must for me to have on hand during the holiday season. It is a wonderful refreshing cocktail and not too strong. I usually dip the rims of my glasses in a green sugar. Everyone loves it.
