I made this cake for my son's 10th birthday party and will share my experience with it.
/ When filling the cupcake liners with batter, fill more than package directions. For this cake to really work and to minimize space between cupcakes, the crown needs to come up over the liner and be somewhat larger than the base.
/ Chilling the cake after decorating will help limit frosting drooping in between the cupcakes, BUT...in order to prevent frosting from pulling off adjacent cupcakes as they are pulled apart, you must let it come to room temp again before serving.
/ It does take a little work to get the shape right to avoid a diamond shape.
/ Overall, knowing what I know now, would definitely make this cake again.
