I spoke to someone today who used to make cakes for a catering company (and now she's my trainer, funny enough) and she said that they would pipe icing in the gaps between the cupcakes before frosting the whole thing to prevent the sink holes or gaps in the frosting. So that's what I'll try!

These were awsome but the only problem I had were the sink holes and i din't know what to do with them. My cousin's boyfriend could not get enough of the icing that feel in the loop holes. Next time I make these I need a better solution.

This is a great recipe! I read the reviews prior to making it and have to agree that piping the frosting on before spreading makes it much easier. The only other thing I could add is use the Whipped Frosting, it's lighter so the "sink-holes" are not a problem. I put it in the fridge over night and it was still perfect after 2 hours in the car and 1/2 a tailgate party!

This recipe was pretty easy, but the icing does fall down into the spaces between the cupcakes. I even squeezed extra icing down into the holes (very messy), but there were still dents in the top.

I would use the special M&M's in your favorite team logo and color.

You could always decorate the cupcakes like they do at the grocery bakery.....pipe a swirl design on each cupcake and put the cupcakes in the design as shown; you might could add the border around the entire cupcake design; not sure if I would or not. Next time you're in a grocery dept. that has a bakery, checkout the way they do the pullaway cupcake cakes.

I made this cake for my son's 10th birthday party and will share my experience with it. 1/ When filling the cupcake liners with batter, fill more than package directions. For this cake to really work and to minimize space between cupcakes, the crown needs to come up over the liner and be somewhat larger than the base. 2/ Chilling the cake after decorating will help limit frosting drooping in between the cupcakes, BUT...in order to prevent frosting from pulling off adjacent cupcakes as they are pulled apart, you must let it come to room temp again before serving. 3/ It does take a little work to get the shape right to avoid a diamond shape. 4/ Overall, knowing what I know now, would definitely make this cake again.

This does seem like a mess once you take one out..When I was in High School, we used a large Wilton egg pan and overfilled it a bit. It made perfect footballs. We used smaller egg pans to make the individual ones for the players. We decorated them like little footballs. FUN!!

I don't know, it would seem that it would be much easier to just make a cake and cut the shape out and frost it. I think this would be very messy looking once you take one cupcake out.
