I have made this twice - once for my birthday and once for a friend. A big hit!! Not very hard to make and I'm no cake decorator. The "straps" were a little bit tricky though.

this is a cool cake but i found it was hard to crumb coat and frost it. and the fruit by the foot is so hard to work with, then hubby gave me an idea after it was all said and done to use twislers sticks for the straps instead of fruit by the foot. and i aslo found in our area it was hard to find decorative candies. but all in all my girls loved it and it was a different experience making it, as it was my first time making anything but regular cake.

If I can make this, seriously, anyone can. It did take me most of the day, but that could be because I have little ones to run after :) It was a hit at my daughters 8th bday party.

These were too easy to make! I made the sole and the top two different colors like in the video. I tried using skittles and M&Ms as the polka dots. I also tried using ferro roche (sp?) or a mini Reese cup instead of the silk flower. Def a FIVE SPOON recipe!!

This cake was very easy to make and a lot of fun! I made it for my 5 year old's birthday party and everyone loved it! I added my own little twist to it though by making 2 cakes, 1 chocolate and one white and then cut 1 big flip-flop out of each cake instead making 2 small ones out of 1 cake. I also found some pastel polka-dot like sprinkles to decorate each flip-flop and then used a pink cupcake icing to go around the edges. The only problem I ran into was making the straps stand up like in this exampe so mine were a little more flat. I also wrapped a large piece of cardboard with aluminum foil and then frosted it with white frosting and sprinkled cinnamon-sugar mixture over the whole thing to make it look like sand. I found some candy letters I used to spell out "Happy Birthday Halleigh Rose" on the "beach" and found some beachy gummy candies like umbrella's, beach balls, and suns to decorate the beach with and also spread a few Swedish Fish candies on it.
