I made this afternoon. It tasted more like spaghetti sauce then tomato soup. I did try to doctor it up but I ended up making it worse.

Loved this recipe. I used FF Evaporated milk instead of cream; used 3 garlic cloves, and slightly more red pepper since I love heat. I didn't totally puree the soup so I would have some chunks of tomato pieces left. Love the heat and how easy this soup was! Served grilled cheese along the side and it was a perfect winter night dinner!!

I'm not a big tomato soup fan, but was craving it for some reason. I 1/2'd it since it was just for me. I didn't have any cream, but used a lil milk and a lil sour cream (eye balled it) to make it more creamy (personal preference). I used dried basil too. I did not use any cilantro. I loved this recipe. It hit the spot. The red pepper does add some heat, but I love heat!! If you're afraid of the pepper, then you can use hot pepper sauce maybe instead. I also used my hand held blender thingy too instead of the blender. Yummy!!

I couldn't find some of the brand names that were used for this soup, so I bought what I thought was appropriate. I used 2 cans of Aylmer Accents (Spicy Red Pepper) - okay one can will be plenty for heat, I would suggest adding a second can, but use regular diced tomatoes. I used one whole red onion and 3 garlic cloves. I used fresh basil in making the soup, but I did not add extra to it afterwards as suggested in the recipe. I then added 1 box of campbells reduced salt chicken broth and I used 1 teaspoon of splenda instead of sugar. The whipping cream was perfect as I am on a low carb diet and can not have milk. I really enjoyed this soup - but beware on adding the crushed pepper flakes (I found it plenty hot with the aylmer accents.) For extra flavour I grated some cheddar cheese on top of my bowl of soup. Yum Yum!

Great recipe! It was surprisingly hot, so perhaps I'd use less pepper flakes next time. It was really good with a grilled cheese sandwich.

Great flavor. I will certainly make this again. Made cheese toast to go with it for a Sunday night supper.
