EXPERT TIPS

Expert Tips

Stroganoff—named after Count Paul Stroganov, a 19th-century Russian diplomat—is typically made with thin slices of tender beef in a rich sour cream gravy. In this version, we’ve substituted ground beef for the beef slices and, for convenience, flavored the dish with onion dip.

We’ve called for dried egg noodles in this recipe, but you could use frozen if you like. They cook more quickly so check the package for correct cooking directions.

I actually took this recipe as a base and put my own spin on it. After cooking my beef, I added 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese, 1c milk, and several of my fave seasonings: nutmeg, paprika, basil, celery seed, ginger, horseradish, and minced garlic. I then let it thicken and added back in the beef. I let that simmer while I cooked some medium sized egg noodles. OH MY GOSH IT WAS DELICOUSES!!!! I've never made this before so I was very excited to hear my husband and 2 sons loved it to and they can be very picky eaters.
