I found cactus in a jar in the Mexican section of our local grocery store. (I live in a small town in North Carolina... there's no Mexican grocery store here.) I made the chili tonight and it was terrific. More soupy than typical chili but it had wonderful flavor. I will be making this a lot this winter! Yum. (And thanks for the advice from other posters!)

It looks like pozole verde.For Ikn you can find cactus leaves at your local mexican grocery store sometime fresh or in a jar.

Sounds DELISH... I know my local grocery store has cactus...It's not any kind of a "specialty" store.Just a regular store(WINCO)- kinda between a"box" store and a regular super market. I wondering if you could use Tamitos(sp?) in this (NOT Tomatoes). Little green "fruit" with a paper skin on it. Used in salsas and other Mexican dishes.
