Prize-Winning Recipe 2007! Who would have guessed a sugar cookie mix was the jump start of an irresistible almond lover’s bar. Both quick and easy, the bar is reminiscent of a Scandinavian bakery pastry.

I made these bars for a holiday party and everyone loved them. They are easy to make. I made them according to the recipe the first time but I thought the white chocolate had too much shortening in the mix so the next time I made them I reduced the shortening by half. If you really don't like white chocolate, semi-sweet chocolate would be great.

These cookies sound wonderful! Love Almond flavor anything... Question---can these cookies be mailed? I didn't know if the frosting would melt or not. Thank you

If you are not a fan of white chocolate, try using vanilla frosting in a can. It is a bit softer & sweeter than the chocolate & it does alter the taste somewhat. This is a wonderful recipe & one that you will make frequently. Yum.

Is there something I could use instead of the shortening? Would butter or a spread work?

I just love almonds and almond flavors, but not a fan of white chocolate, so I was wondering if there is anyone who tried this using dark choc instead or would that take away from the almond taste?

I make 12 varieties of Christmas cookies yearly. I added this one for the 1st time last year and it will be on my yearly list! It truly is bakery style and worth every bit of the extra dollars for the almond paste : )
