This pie tasted okay, but I was frustrated by the lack of directions on making the crumb topping. It says to mix together butter, brown sugar, and flour with a fork or pastry mixer until you get a fine powder, but I tried it with regular butter and melted butter and it never gave me anything resembling a fine powder or crumb topping. It turned into what I would call cookie dough, so I ended up just plopping it on top of the pie and attempted to spread it around. Not very visually appealing.

It was my first pie ever. I had some over ripened pears that I didn't want to go waste. The pie was delicious, easy to and quick to make with ingredients that were already in the fridge. I used tip from BethWhaley to make it less calories packing, and no one noticed. Next time I'll try different fruit.

I hate pears but when a friend had a bumper crop of pears and insisted I take some home I was at a loss as to what to do with them. I came across this recipe and decided to try it...it camp out perfect...I can't even tell it was made with pears. I did substitute the sugar with Splenda and I used fat free sour cream, but it was wonderful and my family gobbled it up. Next time I will try the Splenda brand brown sugar.

I made this pie last fall when I saw several overly ripe pears about to go to waste in a fruitbowl at a relative's home. Absolutely everyone RAVED about this pie, some saying it was the best pie they had ever eaten! And I'm not a pie baker! I'll be making this again. I just came here today to get the crumb topping ingredients to use for a fruit pie my hubby is making (he's the real baker!).
