2
cups Original Bisquick® mix
2/3
cup milk
  • 1 Stir ingredients until soft dough forms.
  • 2 Drop by spoonfuls onto boiling stew; reduce heat.
  • 3 Cook uncovered 10 minutes. Cover and cook 10 minutes.

Expert Tips

Add flavor to these mouthwatering dumplings by stirring 1 teaspoon of a favorite dried herb into the dough.

Dropping the dough onto meat or vegetables in a boiling stew is the best way to ensure perfectly cooked dumplings.

To accurately measure dry ingredients such as Bisquick, spoon into a standard dry-ingredient measuring cup, then level the top with a straight-edge utensil. Do not scoop it or pack it down.

I have used this recipe for 30 yrs. Always loved them but they were SOOOO fluffy they just dissolved into the bowl when served up. After two attempts with Thanksgiving leftovers this year, I tightened up the dough to an almost bisquit consistancy (1/3 less milk). The dumplings are firm enough to replace potatoes. Not little sinkers, just perfect! 30 years it took me?!

I simply LOVE the Northern dumplings! I like to add 1/2 the stew broth (cooled) to the other half (milk) and add to the bisquick. This adds extra flavor to the dumplings that my family LOVES too!
