This treat will make your dog sit up and beg for more. Make the bark by melting carob chips and peanut butter then top with your dog’s favorite ingredients–bacon and cheese. Bow WOW!

I have raised dogs all my life, starting with those my parents bred & showed extensively in CA and other western states. I have studied canine nutrition extensively both for the show ring and to make homemade food, especially for my Basset who's system won't tolerate commercially dried food and many commonly used ingredients. Most veterinarians do not really understand pet nutrition & several have refered to me for advice. I would not have a problem giving these treats as just that... occasional TREATS. Yes, some dogs are lactose intolerant just as some people are; those dogs treats should not be topped with cheese. I would never give any of my dogs treats containing wheat flour and this recipe is a great way to make treats without any grains at all, which is very helpful to dogs with arthritis and other inflammatory issues.

Goodness, I think some people have missed the purpose of the word "treat". It isn't a recipe for dog food, but a treat that should you choose to make should be given in moderation. Thank you Betty Crocker for the recipe!

I so agree with the other comments. Who comes up with a recipe like this and thinks its okay to publish it for animal consumption? We all know how bad bacon is for humans, and dairy for that matter. But, to post a recipe that has both ingredients for dogs is a bit irresponsible. Shame on you Betty Crocker for not being more aware of the recipes you allow on this website.

I've been giving my dogs bits of cheese to take their pills, an occasional treat of yogurt or cottage cheese, even ice cream and have never seen a problem with tummy ails. Guess I've been lucky that my dogs can't read that it's supposed to make them sick :D Only reason I wouldn't give these, is that I also think they need something crunchier and they don't last very long. This would be a special occasion only treat

I thought this sounded like a neat recipe to try for our dog. So I read through the list of ingredients. I noticed that this recipe has cheese in it (a dairy product). I then read the reviews on this recipe and found that other people have concerns about the ingredients and their safety for dogs. To add to the reviews and the concerns about the ingredients, our veterinarian told us that dogs truely are lactose intolerant. She told us NOT to give our dog any dairy products as it can cause pancreatitis in dogs. This isn't advise that I read online, but advise that came from a veterinarian. I haven't tried this recipe, but if/when I do I'll leave out the cheese. I hope this information is helpful.

This is a really fun idea- - but bacon is not a food that is recommended for dogs, no matter how much they may love it!

What a cute idea! My pooch has a sensitive tummy, though. He can't tolerate the bacon, so I am wondering how this recipe would do with oats. I imagine it would set up just fine; kinda like a doggie no-bake. I might have to try it!

MistieMiss, where do you get your information? Carob IS NOT chocolate, it IS NOT dangerous to dogs, nor is cheese for that matter. Carob is used in many dog treat recipes, both homemade and store-bought. And even if it were chocolate that was included in the above recipe, were you aware that it takes about 1 lb of milk chocolate to poison a 20 lb dog? Please get your facts straight before spouting off like that, and do us all a favor and TURN YOUR CAPS LOCK KEY OFF. Thank you.

Oh my goodness, I would not even chance having this recipe in my file for the Carob chips. There are too many other good recipes out there to make healthy dog treats rather than using this one. I even have one that has liver in it - less fat than bacon.
