For the prettiest presentation, use a variety of seasonal fruits to fill this scalloped watermelon shell.

I also use the watermelon to make a basket out of it. Lay it flat on it's bottom (may need to trim a small amount of the melon on the bottom to make it sit without rolling.) Then I cut the left side in a nice edge, but make sure you leave a piece of the watermelon on the top to "make" a handle. Then cut the right side, leaving a part on the top for the other side of the handle. Then scoop out the melon inside the watermelon and cut away the excess that is hanging on the handle. Then you can fill it with your favorite fruits. I recommend letting the watermelon rest 24 hrs before using it for a display vessel. I also like to make a fruit dip and put it in a colored bowl. Then place it in the middle of the "basket". It is really cute to use for any occasion. Hope this helps someone else come up with an addition to your special day.

I found that this salad was very refreshing. Of course, I and my family all love a good, flavorable, refreshing thrist quencher salad at least 4 times a week.......I even dribble some lemon or lime over the fruit after it is done....its a delightful salad.

I made this salad for my sons'' birthday party, and it was a hit with both the adults and the children. It was so easy, the presentation made it very appetizing to all, and it was a refreshing summer dish!

I have done this and also cut the watermelon the long way and made 2 "boats" but cut a couple holes clear through on the bottom so the juice could drain out and placed the "boats" in a plastic container with ice this not only gave the juice somewhere to drain but the ice kept the fruit cold. Great hot weather dessert!!

Beautiful presentation and wonderful recipe, but wouldn''t it be just a tad....messy? I just made this, but cut the watermelon in half horizontally, to make two "bowls", and had to pour off juices several times. Even at the end of the party, when they were empty, there was watermelon/fruit juice standing in the bottom of both bowls. Cute idea, but I don''t know that it''s very practical. And fruit juice is STICKY too!
