Colonial Innkeepers Pie (Funny Cake)

9" deep dish or 10" Pie crust - unbaked

Chocolate sauce

square unsweetened chocolate

cup water

cup sugar

cup butter

tsp vanilla extract

cups flour

3/4

cup sugar

tsp salt

tsp baking powder

1/4

cup canola oil

1/2

cup milk

large egg

• 1 For sauce: Heat water and chocolate in a saucepan over low heat until chocolate is melted. Add sugar and stirring constantly bring to a boil. Remove at once from heat. Add butter and vanilla; stir until blended. Set aside to cool while making cake batter.
• 2 For Cake:Preheat oven to 350. Place pie pan on a cookie sheet. Sift dry ingredients into a bowl. Add oil, milk and egg. Beat together well. Pour batter into pie crust. Using a large spoon pour chocolate sauce into spoon letting it fall over onto cake batter. Move spoon around pan while pouring so sauce gets distributed evenly over top of batter. Sprinkle with nuts.
• 3 Bake for 35-40 minutes until cake tests done with toothpick. Remove from oven and let cool.
