Shortcakes are the sweet sister to biscuits, and they make an awesome dessert when topped and filled with strawberries and whipped cream.

I've been making these shortcakes since I was a teen. Somewhere along the line I added 1/4 tsp. of almond flavoring & have been adding it ever since. Everyone loves them. It adds a real richness to it.

This is the classic recipe I have used for so many years. I also sprinkle a pinch of the big flaky granule sugar over the biscuit tops before they go in the oven. Instead of whipped cream, I splash on whole milk, making the bottom wet and mushy, something a Southerner showed me 40 years ago - waaaay better than whipped cream.

I made the recipe off the box last night and we loved it! We ate one of the shortcakes with butter fresh out of the oven. My husband who is very picky couldn't leave them alone. Will make again SOON!

I use the recipe for shortcakes but add my personal touch. After I put the mounds of bisquick on the cookie sheet, I brush the tops with butter and sprinkle sugar and then bake....It adds a little extra sweetness to the biscuits that we love.

I like most Southerns grew up with this recipe, it bring back wonderful merries of my family at summer get togethers we use to have with family and friends. I can assure readers if fixed according to directions this shortcake is the ticket to great memories. When I make it now I make sure to add additional strawberries and emulsify about a cup of extra strawberries to the fruit, this way to have plenity of sauce for the shortcake that is ful of flavor.

This is the classic recipe. My mother used it in the 50s, I use it today. I do choose to "crumble" the shortcake into the bottom of the serving bowl so it can absorb more juice. Make more juice by adding about 1/3 cup water when you clean the strawberries.
