This is the classic made-from-scratch sweet potato recipe. It's easy and can be completely cooked on top of the stove.

I had to join just to say I AGREE, the original edition is the best. I inherited my Mom's SECOND EDITION and the recipes are far better than the modernized versions. Come on, reissue the old version! Butter, cream and pork fat rule!!! Better to eat less, but all natural and less tasty than rely on margarine and other modern shortcuts.

I totally agree with janedoe99 - many of us would like the old edition (1970's) reissued. Mine is in tatters!

This is not the Betty Crocker classic candied yams recipe. The real one calls for cream, not water, and butter, not margarine. I am disappointed that I can not find a classic older Betty Crocker cookbook. I will NEVER buy the new one. I don't like the page layout or the brown colors of the new one. I want the old Betty Crocker cookbook. Like Joy of Cooking, Betty Crocker needs to reissue their older cookbook from the 1970s. It was the best one. Disappointed in the recipes on this website.

This is my husbands favorite. I also use Splenda brown sugar and add 1/3 cup of chopped pecans. It is delicious and healthy!

Easy and good! Both of my sons loved this. I added in a little orange zest for a little different taste.

YUMMY! I loved this recipe. I changed the brown sugar to Splenda brown sugar, since I have to watch my sugar intake, but it was just as wonderful as the real thing. This will definately be a favorite in my household.

My mother who is 83 shared this recipe with me ,and it has become a favorite with my family. The recipe is easy to make and always turns out well. It is easy but tastes like it took a lot of work to prepare.
