Cinnamon Sugar Fig Tarts

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 3 cups Gold Medal™ all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 jar (10.5 or 11 oz) fig preserves
  • 1/2 cup chopped pitted dates
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans, toasted
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
  • Powdered sugar, if desired

    In large bowl, beat butter and granulated sugar with electric mixer on medium speed until fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon and salt; beat until blended. Shape dough into a ball. Cover; refrigerate 30 minutes.

    Heat oven to 375°F. Spray 9 (3-inch) tart pans with cooking spray. On lightly floured surface, roll dough to 1/4-inch thickness. Using 4-inch round cutter, cut dough into 9 rounds. Press rounds in bottoms and up sides of tart pans.

    In medium bowl, stir together preserves, dates, nuts, brown sugar and allspice. Spoon filling into dough-lined pans.

    Place pans on large cookie sheet. Bake 15 minutes or until golden. Cool completely on cooling rack. Gently remove from pans. Sprinkle tarts with powdered sugar.
