When we made these, we made the three colors; crushed all white peppermint candy to fine powder, and before baking rolled the white dough in it. Then with the red and green dough, we rolled them in corresponding sugar sprinkles. After twisting them, and baking them, we laid them in powdered sugar, on the bottom sides. Mmmmmm. They were so sweet, and the peppermint flavor we put into the batter to begin with made the whole thing come together very festively!!! Perfect cookie to have w/ hot cocoa!

I have made these cookies for many years. My favorite way was last year when I used peppermint extract and instead of candy canes made 3-4 inch long bar cookies an placed semi sweet chocolate chips in a row along the top. They were eaten very quickly. They also packed easily and I sent them overseas to friends who were deployed. They made it unscathed.
