Keep a box of buttery pinwheels in your freezer for that time when you really need them.

I have made this recipe for many years. However, I would recommend substituting chocolate syrup, or melted semi-sweet chocolate chips-instead of the cocoa powder. This will help you avoid the problems of dry dough. I also add 1 tsp of vanilla. Another good substition is to add orange extract, and grated orange zest to the "white" part of the pinwheel for an orange/chocolate twist.

I made these cookies 20 years ago and the dough was dry and hard to work with I thought maybe I did it wrong. My daughter is making them now and is having the same trouble as I did so it wasn't me it is the recipe way to dry.

I really liked how easy the dough was to work with, but found that they didn''t taste as good as they looked, or as good as the raw dough tasted. They make a fabulous coffee cookie, sort of like biscotti, if you dip the tops in melted chocolate bark and sprinkle with toffee bits or nuts!

The taste of the dough is very good. BUT, it was HORRID to roll out. The dough was too dry and crackd. I was so frustrated by the time that I finished rolling it up into the pin wheel that I wanted to chuck it in the trash. I haven''t baked them yet. I hope they turn out good.

Very time consuming for something so tasteless! Has to be missing an ingredient to be so dry. I tossed my right in the garbage!

Found this recipe to be a disappointment. Long wait to find the cookie tasteless. Lots of others said it was difficult to roll out, I had no trouble but was less than pleased with the lack of taste for the trouble I went to. Don''t waste your time on this one. I''m tossing out the recipe. Wouldn''t have given it the 1 star if possible.

This was the absolute worst cookie I''ve ever tried to make. The dough fell apart and there was absolutely no way I could roll it. I will never make this cookie again. All I can think of is the butter and sugar that were wasted.

BIG waste of time! I love making cookies, lost my patience with these. They looked pretty but way too dry to work with. The dough was to crumbly and impossible to roll up without it breaking all over, waste of time, the taste was kind of dull too. Dont think I''ll make these again!

I thought I was a good cook, but I found this recipe tough. Maybe it was because I tripled it for a cookie exchange, but my electric mixer could not handle it. They finally did come out pretty (after much swearing and yelling at the dough for sticking like crazy), but they are dry and tasteless. Do NOT waste your time or effort. It took way longer than they said to make these. Not worth it.

pretty, but absolutely tasteless! I''d rate it lower than 1 star, if I could!
