I read all the reviews and since this was my first time baking these cookies, I decided to follow the recipe exactly and tweak it later if need be. Well, the cookies were a huge hit, just the way the recipe was written. No tweaking necessary. They came out perfect, were super easy and they are definitely a new favorite in my house.

Absolutely wonderful. The hardest part about these cookies is waiting the 3 hours for them to chill before we can bake and eat. I have to make a dbl batch for my crew.

Love love love these! A childhood favorite - chewy in the middle and deliciously chocolate-y!

These fudgy cookies were so easy and the kids were able to help make them for our 2011 Christmas Cookie Day. My neice LOVED the fact that they look like turtle shells when they are done. They also travel well.

people can't get off these cookies every time i make them. recently i made them into cookie sandwiches. i brought them to work and everybody loved them and wanted more. i use 2pkg. softened cream cheese, 3/4 to 1 cup powedered sugar, 2 tsp. cinnamon or peanut butter. i split the filling in half before i added the cinnamon/pb so i could make some cookies w/both flavors. you could really add whatever you like to flavor the filling. like a little raspberry or strawberry jam or even mini chocolate chips.

I love these cookies!!! I remember making them with my grandma and aunt during christmas every year. I go my recipe from my aunt, my only issue came from trying to get them to bake right in Colorado. I found that adding a 1/2 tsp more of baking powder and making sure that the shortening, eggs, and sugar are mixed really well they would bake right and not melt in the oven.

I cannot believe I found this recipe! My mom has been baking these cookies since I was a child (I am now 57)and we always looked forward to eating these. They would disappear about as quick as she made them. She had given me the recipe and I lost it, so I'm so thankful I found the recipe again.

I saw this photo and so many memories came to mind....Making and Eating these YUMMY cookies. I read thru ALL the comments and decided to use the "OLD" version of this recipe from my Mom's BC cookbook. I have been making these for well over 35yrs!!! The old school version uses shortening and only 2 squares of choc to 1 2/3 c sugar, so that seemed to address the chocolaty flavor and sweetness some had commented on. I did have to employ the "Shake N Bake" method I read about for coating the dough in the powdered sugar!!!!!!!!! I would get my younger sister to roll these cookies into balls and get all gooey and messy {I used her skills to make meatballs and meatloaf too!!! LOL} Now NO mess at all!!!!! I dropped teaspoons full of dough into a bag of 10X sugar.....couldn't get any easier!!!!!! Now we will make these more often!!! Thanks for reminding us just how GOOD these cookies are!!! Well worth the 3 hr wait!!!!
