DO YOU KNOW? The Lunar New Year (Year of the Cat)Feb 2 2011, this recipe is just perfect for the occation. The Chinese make this cookie with an Almond in the center (just like when you make thumb print cookies), symbol of coin for wealth, and the almond brings happiness to families. HAPPY BAKING and HAPPY NEW YEARS (2011 and Year of the Cat)... BTW, the Year of the Cat had been changed to year of the Rabbit (!!!chic), FYI, by the Communist China because their first Chairman, MAO Tse Tung name means CAT in Chinese!!! Laughable!!!!

Great Cookie! For those of you that live in Texas, HEB food stores have Chinese Five Spice. Look for it in the spice section. Ask if you don't find it.

You can purchse Chinese Five Spice (and just about any other spice or herb) from Penzeys. Pezeys is an AMAZING spice store. They have some stores across the country but also a huge online and catalog buisiness. Check out: www.Penzeys.com. These cookies came out wonderful! Nice and different.

Wonderful new spicy taste! Quick and small batch for cookie tray, SO different from the typical cookie, too! Found the spice at Williams Sonoma store, glad it's a big jar, think I'll make this cookie often.

We just made these this morning and everyone loves them. Even our two extremely fussy little ones. They have a perfect blend of sweetness and spice.
