Ingredients

1/2
cup butter or margarine
2/3
cup firmly packed brown sugar
2/3
cup maple-flavored syrup
2/3
cup crunchy peanut butter
1
teaspoon vanilla
3
cups quick-cooking oats
1
cup wheat germ
1
cup graham cracker crumbs
1
cup cherry- or orange-flavored sweetened dried cranberries

  • 1 Grease bottom and sides of 13x9-inch pan with shortening. Melt butter in 2-quart saucepan over medium heat. Stir in brown sugar and maple syrup; heat to boiling. Boil 1 minute, stirring frequently; remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter and vanilla until mixture is smooth.
  • 2 Stir remaining ingredients into peanut butter mixture, mixing well. Press evenly in pan. Cover and refrigerate about 2 hours or until firm. For bars, cut into 6 rows by 4 rows. Store covered in refrigerator.

Expert Tips

Honey can be used instead of the maple syrup, and old-fashioned oats can be used instead of the quick-cooking oats.
