Like most of the "diabetic" friendly dessert recipes this one is high on the carbs especially for a type 2. However a few tweaks such as making your own sugar free condensed milk, subbing out (all or half) the sugar with a sweetener can make this recipe more friendly. It would be nice however if the recipes listed as diabetic friendly did have these type of suggestions listed - not everyone making these recipes have diabetes (often made for a friend or family member) so may not realise that the recipe as it written may taste great but it isn't exactly diabetic friendly

Excellent Oat Bars!! I agree that these are a little high in sugar to be in the healthy diabetic category, however, as Jace68138 said, you just have to be creative about it. Like for example.... use Splenda Brown Sugar instead of regular. It significantly reduces the carbs and leaves only the carbs from the oats.... which are very slow absorbing and don't "spike" your glucose levels. I am type one diabetic, and even with the recipe shown, with the regular brown sugar, I only have to add 2 units of humalog insulin for my meal to be able to indulge in one of these DELICIOUS oat bars with it! Also...when I made these, I used half semi-sweet chocolate ships, and half DARK chocolate MILDLY sweet chocolate chips....and, for melting them, I used regular old skim milk instead of condensed. It worked perfect! The dark chocolate helps to add healthy antioxidants as well. A+ recipe!

After reading most of the reviews for these, I still wanted to try them. I just got diagnosed with gestational diabetes and have to be very careful of my carb intake. I replaced the brown sugar the recipe calls for with dark agave nectar, lowering the amount of carbs per serving IMMENSELY. I would suggest that any one, diabetic or not, think about what they are posting before they do. It doesn't take too much brain power to come up with creative, pro-active solutions to fix a problem, rather than complain about it.

Slosh29.. I understand that every is just posting opinions. But when you come from a family that has diabetics you have to learn to read the ingredients first before you make something OR allow them to "taste" it. This recipe as for 3 others have way too much sugar and carbs for any smart and careful diabetic to try.

I read the opinions and negative rating about the ingredients but since this is a recipe review I was wondering how the recipe was when you tried it? Surely you would not review a recipe you did not try. There is a community tab to post your opinion of ingredients so I am assuming you simply forgot to write how the recipe tasted. I thought it was ok. I have had better, I have had worse.

i agree with the posts. there are too many "big name" website out there that advertise "low carb" yet there are 20+ carbs in a serving. my husband doesn't eat 20 carbs in a whole meal. i just came across a recipe posted here. Search for PB&J Cupcakes. Only 7 carbs for 1 cupcake!!! (or here's the link http://www.bettycrocker.com/recipes/pbj-cupcakes/7c30d3d7-bb4c-41fb-8901-616825c5e6d2 )

Betty Crocker products are wonderful. I have always enjoyed their great flavor and they are so quick to prepare. Now, I just went through all the "diabetic" advertised desert recipes. You really should remove them from this listing. They are NOT for anyone suffering with Diabetes. Betty Crocker is a well respected, established organization. Why would you post these terribly misleading recipes? I am surprised and very disappointed, I came to your site for help. Please fix this.

Why can't these food giants get with the program a really provide some low or no sugar ideas. I use Bisquick and other items with no sugar and substitute a sugar alcohol.... and the items come out great(some other modifications may be required) but none of our big boys help us, we have to experiment on our own and waste precious resources. There is not even a contest for truly diabetic cooking/baking where are you folks speak up. The 'supposed' cookbooks and recipes are anything but diabetic friendly.
