I've never made Au Gratin potatoes from scratch, always bought Betty Crocker boxed, which I always found delicious. I made this recipe today, since it was raining & I didn't feel like going to the store. It came out fanastic!!! My brother loved it & so did I. I'll still buy the boxed Au Gratin potatoes when I'm pressed for time, but I'll definitely make these again!

So thankful to have found this recipe! I added chopped garlic, (maybe 1/2 t.) and about 3/4 c swiss cheese which gave it nice depth of flavor. Also used a 3 qt (9x13) casserole instead of 2 qt so it wouldn't overflow. It was quick and foolproof, just what I need. I know this will become a standard for me.

These were awesome. I cut the recipe down as there are only two of us. My husband told me to make the whole thing next time, he wants more left overs. They were that good. Thank you

I love cheesy au gratin potatoes but have never made them from scratch, as my Nona used to make them! I have only made them out of the box. Good still but not amazing! I made this recipe with meat loaf and me and my fiance both loved it! I will be making these every chance I get! Potlucks, Holidays, dinner parties! I loved this recipe! I did add minced garlic to my butter tho, b/c cheese and garlic are my true loves in food, and it turned out great! I will be looking for any excuse/reason to make these again! YUMMY!

This was a huge hit at our family Christmas gathering this year. Used 1 cup milk and 1 cup cream. For color, added a small jar of drained red pimientos to the saucepan, and, sprinkled the chopped green part of a bunch of green onions on top after it finished cooking. I was told to bring this to the party again every year!

Made these a couple times already as posted and sprayed the pan lightly with Pam. Yummy! DH said these were awesome! Next time I will make them even thinner. Used the food processor, so this was so easy to prep and tossed in the oven and voila. Dish is done and yummy. Served it with meatloaf both times. Yummy. Will make this often in our home! And in fact, I will be making it for Christmas dinner too! Its that good.

Delicious!! I had never made homemade au gratin potatoes before & had to search for a recipe & this one popped out based on all the good reviews & ratings! I stuck to the recipe exactly pretty much except for I fried up some pepper bacon, crumbled it up & added it to the mix--excellent idea & gave it a little more flavor. Also, I had read that alot of people thought it was a little bit messy cleanup, so I sprayed the pan w/a light coat of cooking spray. Overall, very tasty & I will be making them again!!

It's a family favorite! We always add a clove or 2 of garlic with the onions. When we are cut for time, I always cook up the sauce and add the potatoes into the sauce and cover & cook until the potatoes are tender. Once they're ready, I top the remaining cheese & breadcrumbs, set the oven to high on the broiler until the top is brown and toasty!

I usually make boxed au Gratin potatoes, but russet potatoes were WAY on sale, so I had 10 lbs and needed recipes. I cooked these potatoes up for my family and my father-in-law and served them with pork tenderloin and steamed asparagus. They were a hit (actually, the whole dinner was)! We have made them a couple of times since then, and they always go over well. I will probably not go back to the boxed kind. The best part is that we almost always have the ingredients on hand!

Yummy! didn't even bother with bread crumbs. really liked the "more done" edges that were slightly crispy. ended up adding more potatoes than recipe called for and it was still very good.
