Ok, yes they are sticky to work with. Be sure to use two spoons buttered on the rounded side to mold them into trees. Worked really well. After it cooled a little I would suggest stirring in the candies if you use M&M's, otherwise it's hard to get them to stick, I see now why they use gumdrops. Also easier to mold once cooler. Have fun! I think my son's preschool will go crazy for these. I think because of the sweetness of the marshmallow, it would have been totally fine to use regular Cherrios and they would be just as good.

These were a great idea in theory. In practice ... well, it's pretty difficult to shape the cheerio mixture into tree shapes and expect them to stay that way. Gumdrops didn't want to stick, either. They taste pretty good, but the same taste could be achieved in a much easier way.

I was very disappointed with this recipe. I couldn't even shape the first tree. The cheerios would not form into any shape. I ended up pressing them flat into a cookie sheet. Then I cut them into triangles that I then transformed into trees. Kind of like JohnsonR but I didn't have the time or patience to wait an hour. I didn't use a cookie cutter. I just cut horizontal and diagonal lines to form my trees.

I haven't made them yet, but they look great! One of my kids can't have any nuts, so I'm going to subtitute Multi-Grain Cheerios for the Honey Nut ones. Hopefully, that won't make a huge difference.

Oh, my goodness! I was so happy to see these as my mother made them years ago with us and I in turn made them with my children. We used the plain Cheerios, but the rest of the recipe is the same. They are wonderful!!!

I want to make these with my grandchildren, so I can't rate it yet. Couldn't you spray the inside of a funnel and use that as a form for the tree? Seems like that might work and make it easier.

I couldn't make these look anything like a Christmas tree (I even tried the funnel method someone else had suggested) so I spread the mixture out on a cookie sheet, put it in the fridge for about an hour, and then cut trees out using a cookie cutter. Worked like a charm! I also put a tiny dab of frosting on M&Ms and other small candies to decorate. They are delicious and everyone I gave them to thought so too!

I couldn't get these into Christmas tree shapes, either. I was lucky and found star-shaped marshmallows for the top, which somewhat resemble Christmas trees. I also couldn't get the "ornaments" to stick, so melted some more marshmallows in a bowl and tinted it green to use as "glue". I think if I practiced some more, I could do this well. Maybe next time when the mixture is cooled down nearly enough to work with, I'll add some mini-M&Ms into the mix as ornaments instead of sticking them on indivually. But as another reviewer said, the kids LOVED them and ate them up before touching any other dessert!
