Move over chocolate! This is my new favorite. A friend brought the Chai cake to a party recently. After one taste, I can't stop raving about it! I asked for a piece to bring home, and shared it with my family, who asked that I make one for them. It's better than the best spice cake I've ever eaten! This is going to be my contribution for many future potlucks!

Honestly -- I haven't made the cake itself, but the glaze on this is out of this world. Try it on any spice or pumpkin cake and you will get raves. I used it on a box mix cake and folks thought I slaved over it.

I was looking for a Chai cake recipe that would be close to what was offered at a local coffee shop we frequent. I also wanted a recipe that could be easily modified to use a box mix. Looking at three or four Chai cake recipes on the internet, this one looked the best for my purposes.I used Duncan Hines (it was on sale) Spice Cake Mix and added the spices mentioned in this recipe: cardamom, ginger, cinnamon, etc. I followed the box directions for making the cake but instead of water I used Chai tea made from dissolved Chai drink package. (from SeriousChai.com) It turned out EXCELLENT. Esp. with the icing. It was so close to the coffee house version we were ecstatic. I plan to try it with Betty Crocker''s Spice Cake mix next just to see what the difference might be.

I had this recipe in my box for a while and with the rainy weather Sunday I decided to make it. Being a fan of the Chai tea I was very excited to see how this would come out. I loved it, my 4 year old son liked it and so did my husband. It was very flavorful, but not over powering. The icing provided a sweet touch.
