These are one of the best cookies I have ever made! I have been looking forward all year to make them again. I have family, friends and friends of friends requesting them. So very easy for a cookie that looks so complicated! These are definetly a new holiday tradition in my house!

My family loved this cookie but the only problem I found was that the caramel never really set and would run if the cookies were not laying flat. I trying layering them in a container with waxed paper between the layers and the caramel stuck to the paper.

I am having the most difficult time with these cookies! I cannot seem to keep them from turning into being as flat as pancakes while they are in the oven :/ Once they cool, I'm going to do my best to work with them to keep the carmel and chocolate on top. The cookie part tastes yummy but I think they are going to look ugly when I'm all finished. Too bad, these sounded very promising!

When I took the cookies out of the oven, the indentations had disappeared. I came up with an easy fix. While the hot cookies are still on the baking sheet, use a clean cork from a wine bottle to make the perfect size indentation. Just don't push too hard and go all the way through the warm cookie. Make sure there is enough cookie to hold the caramel mix. Don't use the cork method when the cookies are on the cooling racks or else you might push completely through the cookie. Also, I substituted soy based coffee creamer for the half and half. My daughter does not like nuts so I eliminated them. This is a very yummy cookie.

I would not make a thumb well in the middle next time I make these, I would just drizzle the caramel over the top like the dark chocolate & white chocolate. The caramel n the well is to hard to bite, too much together. Otherwise they good & pretty.

I cant wait to make these!! Im not a nut person so thanks for letting me know I can omit themn and they still taste great!! Question: Instead of melting caramels w/ half & half do you think the kind of caramel that goes on sundaes would work?? Not the syrup kind but the thick topping kind.

Since I'm allergic to nuts I omitted them...I can't imagine how the nuts could have enhanced the deliciousness of this cookie any more!! Easy to make, incredible to eat. Agree with others that the indent needs to be deep to hold the caramel - might try the bottom of a 1/2 tsp measuring spoon next time. Didn't need that many caramels to top all the cookies - probably could have reduced by 1/2 dozen and cut back a bit on the half and half to offset the difference. I wasn't sure about the sea salt, but it really made the flavor pop. Flew off my desk at work...definitely adding to the gift cookie repertoire!!

Great recipe. Easy to make. Make sure that the pecans are cool before adding to the dough or they melt the butter and make the dough too soft. If the dough gets too soft to work with, just refrigerate it for a few minutes. I reduced the half and half in the caramel mixture to a little more than 2 tbsp and the caramel hardened nicely. I also pressed a spoon into the baked cookies as soon as I took them out of the oven to try and make the indent deeper.

Sweet and salty combination is a hit. The actual cookie itself is a little bland. Caramel turned out a bit runny. Hopefully it will harden up by next day. Make sure you make the "thumb print" deep other wise the caramel runs off. Easy to make otherwise.

The taste is very good...salty sweet, a perfect combination. However, I could not get the indents to stay indented on the cookies. Also, I would probably drizzle the caramel, instead of having it in a small pool....too much in one spot. Couldn't get the choc chips to drizzle, so mine look like they are frosted. Would make again and try with these changes.
