Directions

  • 1 Heat oven to 350°F (325°F for dark or nonstick pan). Grease bottom only of 13x9-inch pan with shortening or cooking spray. In medium bowl, stir brownie mix, pouch of chocolate syrup, oil, water and eggs until well blended. Spread in pan. In small bowl, combine nuts and chocolate chips; sprinkle half of mixture over batter in pan. Set remaining nut mixture aside.
  • 2 Bake 30 minutes. Meanwhile, place caramels and milk in small microwavable bowl, microwave uncovered on HIGH 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 minutes, stirring every minute until caramels are melted.
  • 3 After removing pan from oven, immediately spoon caramel mixture over brownie to within 1/2 inch of sides; sprinkle with remaining nut mixture. Return to oven and bake an additional 10 minutes until toothpick inserted into brownie 2 inches from side of pan comes out almost clean. Cool completely, about 1 1/2 hours. For brownies, cut into 8 rows by 5 rows. Store covered at room temperature.

EXPERT TIPS

Expert Tips

Use your favorite nut for these decadent brownies. For a tropical twist, try macadamia nuts or a cashew-macadamia mix.

For super-easy cleanup, line your baking pan with foil that is longer than the pan. Spray the bottom of the foil as directed. When brownies are cool, lift them out of the pan by the foil "handles," peel back foil and cut brownies.

These are really good. Took them to a family gathering and they were gobbled up. Very sweet, suggest small size portions. I had made them with regular brownie mix as I couldn't find the one with the syrup packet. I had made them a week ahead of time and froze them and they were still moist and gooey when thawed and served.

Awful! I followed the recipe exactly...the caramel mostly sunk to the bottom of the pan and burnt. I had to ditch the whole goopy mess!

Everybody LOVED these brownies. They are very gooey and really delicious. One thing I did differently was pour half of the brownie batter, then spread half the caramel, then poured the remaining batter and then topped it off with the remaining caramel. This allows you to taste the caramel better. Because the brownies are so gooey, one thing to watch out for is that a toothpick typically does not come out clean after the 40 min baking time. As long as the sides are set, the brownies will be fine. Just let them cool completely and then cut them.
