I don"t really like almonds. Can I use walnuts or pecans?

I made this for a church potluck. There was none left to take home. In fact I had 3 requests for the recipes which I will fulfill. I loved the fact that I got to make the caramel sauce for the top of the cake.

Made this cake yesterday. General consensus was that it was very sweet and rich. So, since I accidently bought evap milk, I had extra on hand. I plated with the evap milk and put a slice of the cake on top, let it sit for a few minutes for absorption and served. The evaporated milk helped with the rich sweet consistency of the cake. Delicious!

Okay, but a bit too sweet for my taste buds, I think the frosting drizzled was a bit too much for me. Maybe just a simple powdersugar drizzle instead of a frosting melted. May not be as overpowering.

Yes the cream, brown sugar, butter mixture is the caramel sauce you pour over the cake but could you use an already prepared caramel sauce like butterscotch caramel by Mrs. Richardson's or Smuckers? If so it would make this cake so much easier! I know the Heath cake I make I use already prepared caramel topping and add a can of sweetened condensed milk to it and it is delicious!

This recipe sounds great, but what is step 2 (whipping cream, butter, and brown sugar) for. Do I drizzle over warm cake as well?
