These rich and chewy bars of butterscotch goodness are extra-easy to make with cake mix and butterscotch caramel topping.

Oh what a mess. Once I mixed the cake mix, egg and margarine I didn't have crumbles; instead I had a sticky paste. I think my xl egg made the mix to wet and I was out a flour to thicken it. It was not enough to even cover half the pan! So i shoved it in a pie pan, the bottom is cooked to almost burnt and the top is a sticky glob of goo. I'll scrap it out once it cools and try it, but very disappointed because they looked so good.

I only gave this 4 spoons because I had to change a couple things. First I could not find the butter pecan cake mix anywhere! I used devil's food cake mix instead because a fellow reviewer suggested it and it sounded yummy. I also read that people had issues with it being too messy so I used dulce de leche(cajeta) instead of butterscotch sauce. Dulce de leche is thicker so I didn't have problems with it being too messy. I also lightly buttered the bottom of the pan since people said they had trouble getting it out. Over all it turned out delicious. Chocolate + caramel= yummy. Almost like turtle brownies but without nuts. People raved about them. I know I didn't follow the recipe exactly, but I wanted to offer a little twist based on the other ideas and the fact that I couldn't find this cake mix anywhere. Enjoy :)

I could not find the suggested cake mix and therefore used the golden butter mix. They were delicious, but I DEFINITELY suggest to use Pam or something on the dish or you will not get them out. I topped with crushed Pecans and it really added to the taste. One more suggestion is to use a little more than half the dough on the bottom. The caramel seemed to be absored too much and it was as if there was no crust (adding to the stickiness). Even though they were messy and very sweet, they were eaten quickly and were requested again!

I loved this recipe, though I did make some changes. I didn't have caramel on hand, so i used melted butterscotch chips. I just got them melted and spread them across the first layer of cake. It tastes great! I also used a smaller pan so the bars are thicker and pretty sturdy. I will have to try the caramel next time. Overall, I recommend it!

These bars are delish and never last long wherever I bring them! Super easy to make too! I usually only use about 3/4 of the caramel called for in the recipe. This is probably why I don't have a problem with them being messy. When pressing the first layer in the pan allow a slight lip on the edges so the caramel will not be directly touching your pan. Clean up will be no problem. The Butter Pecan cake mix is hard to find. When in a pinch I use Butter Golden Cake mix and it is delicious still. I will have to try the fudge mix.

My 5 year old requested these for his birthday dessert this year b/c he loved them so much. I don't make them with carmel topping since that's not something I usually have on hand. Instead, I double the frosting recipe I put on Apple Cake, since this is a sweet "caramelly" vanilla frosting. I think this also is a little thicker than caramel topping, so they're not as messy.

I just loved this one! The only problem I had was finding the cake mix so I used banana cake mix instead. What a great taste!

This bars were a messy type because of the caramel. You have to really cool them down before cutting them. They were really sweet, too sweet and tasted good. They are just too sticky.

The bars were very easy and quick to make. I had no trouble with the bars sticking to the pan. Although they are a little messy, but that''s to be expected with using carmel. Everyone that tried them said they were good, but very sweet.
