Browned Butter Cookies with Caramel Frosting

Here's one of those cookies that is enjoyed many ways--frosting first or nibbled all around. One things is certain: Everyone loves them!

Ingredients

Cookies

cup butter (do not use margarine)
2
cups packed brown sugar
1/2
cup milk
2
eggs
3 1/2
cups Gold Medal® all-purpose flour
1
teaspoon baking soda
1/4
teaspoon salt

Caramel Frosting

1/2
cup butter or margarine
1
cup packed brown sugar
1/4
cup milk
2
cups powdered sugar

  • 1 Heat oven to 400°F. In 2-quart heavy saucepan, melt 1 cup butter over medium heat. Continue to cook, stirring constantly, until butter is light brown. Cool at least 10 minutes.
  • 2 In large bowl, mix browned butter, 2 cups brown sugar, 1/2 cup milk and the eggs with spoon. Stir in flour, baking soda and salt. Drop dough by rounded tablespoonfuls about 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheet.
  • 3 Bake cookies 9 to 11 minutes or until almost no indentation remains when touched in center. Cool 1 to 2 minutes; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely, about 30 minutes.
  • 4 Meanwhile, in 2-quart saucepan, melt 1/2 cup butter over medium heat. Stir in 1 cup brown sugar. Heat to boiling, stirring constantly. Stir in 1/4 cup milk. Heat to boiling; remove from heat. Cool to lukewarm, about 30 minutes. Gradually stir in powdered sugar. Spread Caramel Frosting on cookies.

It was my frist time trying to make Carmel frosting. I didn't make the cookies, just needed the frosting. I'd like to of seen the person make this or be able to ask some questions. First, the butter and brown sugar wouldn't blend and it took a long time to boil, 2nd. when I added the milk, it steamed so much I almost got burned. Then when I let it set 30 minutes, it was so cool that I could only mix 1`/2 c. powdered sugar and it was in a "ball" shape. What did I do wrong?!?

These cookies taste great. I used the recipe for the frosting and the frosting turned out really thick. I had to add some more milk so I could spread the frosting on the cookies. The next time I make these, I will used the ready-made canned Caramel frosting/icing. Other than the frosting mishap, I really liked these cookies.

Bland flavor but still have a little sweet taste. Dough is gooey unlike most cookie doughs. Overall they are okay but a lot of work.
