Broccoli with Cheese

An easy cheese sauce is draped over tender broccoli spears in a 30-minute side dish.

Ingredients

lb broccoli

tablespoons water

oz process American cheese, sliced

cup milk

teaspoon onion salt

drop red pepper sauce, if desired
  • 1 Cut broccoli into spears with 1/2-inch-wide stalks. In 2-quart round microwavable dish, place broccoli and water. Cover with plastic wrap, folding back one edge 1/4 inch to vent steam. Microwave on High 6 to 8 minutes or until hot and crisp-tender; drain.
  • 2 In 2-quart saucepan, heat remaining ingredients over medium heat 6 to 8 minutes, stirring frequently, until cheese is melted and mixture is smooth. Pour over broccoli.

Expert Tips

Try this recipe with asparagus spears instead of broccoli. Microwave on High 5 to 7 minutes, rotating dish after half the cooking time.
