Slow-Cooker Black-Eyed Peas and Ham

Try this slow cooked salad made using Progresso™ chicken broth, black-eyed peas and ham - a simple and delicious main dish.

Ingredients

bag (16 oz) dried black-eyed peas

cups chopped cooked ham
5
cups Progresso™ chicken broth (from two 32-oz cartons)
1
cup chopped green bell pepper
1
cup chopped onion (1 large)
2
cloves garlic, finely chopped
1
teaspoon salt
1/4
teaspoon ground red pepper (cayenne)

Directions

  • 1 Place dried peas in large bowl; add enough cold water to cover. Let stand 8 to 24 hours.
  • 2 Spray 5-quart slow cooker with cooking spray. Drain peas; add to slow cooker. Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • 3 Cover; cook on Low heat setting 8 hours.

Expert Tips

To increase the heat in this dish, stir in some red pepper sauce at the end of cooking or add more cayenne.
