This recipe was such a yummy success in my house. The only change I made was reducing the amount of chili powder because I'm a big baby when it comes to spicy food. I used 1 tsp and it was perfect for me. My daughter loved that it didn't have meat in it. I loved that it was super easy to make and tasted so good. It's made my "make again" permanent file.

Made this last night, very good, I had cooked the beans the night before in the crock pot and substituted beef broth and used canned diced tomatoes. Very good chili, I will make this again.

This is for Slow Sally who wanted to do this recipe in the crock pot. I did step one as directed. While that was going I rinsed the beans and put them in the crock pot with the broth and set to low. After this, I put the rest of the ingredients with the veggies that were still cooking just to get the flavors incorporated. I dumped all the cooked veggies into the crock pot and put the lid on. I then browned a pound of lean ground Jenny-O turkey to make more of a meal of the dish. I dumped that into the pot and let it go. I kept it on until dinner time. A few hours later. It was very good. Just a little too sweet for me. Next time I will use less honey. The tomato paste is probably sweet enough. The chili powder amount listed is not enough in my opinion. I like the idea of adding the red pepper flakes. Will do that next time. I added about 2 more teaspoons of red pepper and 1/2 teaspoon cumin. Hope that helps. I finished off with grilled sandwiches. Very healthy and hearty dish.

Amazing chili! Chili was easy to make and taste great! I added lean ground beef, and substituted one can for white kidney beans; I also used the whole 32 oz of chicken broth, and used 1 big can of diced tomatos. My (picky) husband loved it!

This was the best chili we have had in a while! Loved it. The kids loved it. We did not miss the beef at all. Was a little skeptical trying it out, but was very surprised and pleased! Would not change a thing.

First...this recipe is great. I added a 1/2 tsp of red pepper flakes for a little added heat, but otherwise delicious as-is. Now, a couple of points - traditional chili has no beans, period. There are many geographical differences in what goes into a chili that make it unique to that particular area (St. Louis, Cincinnati, Louisville, etc), but as mentioned, traditionally (and historically) a chili is a stew with no meat. This recipe makes no distinction as being a "vegetarian" or "vegan," so why that came into play is irrelevant. Also, Alberto23...if you eat soups with meat broths ("sometimes"), then you are NOT a vegetarian, end-of-story; it doesn't matter if there's an option or not - sorry! Overall, great recipe. The cilantro adds a nice flavor and this makes a great base recipe to add or remove ingredients as necessary to get the flavor you're looking for. Well done!

Sounds like a delicious option for a non-meat dinner! To those who just have to have their meat substitute one of the cans of black beans for some diced or shredded pre-cooked chicken. The recipe title tells me all I need to know about what is in the chili.

Sometimes I eat soups with meat broths, if there is not an option, but since I am vegetarian, I am going to make this with a vegetable broth. This sounds delicious! Thanks for posting a great chili minus meat!
