This is the chocolate cake recipe from the 1973 Betty Crocker's Cookbook ~ I've been making this for all special occassions for all these years, and it is my most requested cake by far ~ even my mother-in-law used to ask for it for her birthdays, and trust me, she liked the cake better than she liked me! The only difference is the original recipe specifies 2 cups of cake flour rather than regular - I always used Soft As Silk (when I lived up North) and King Arthur down South. I use the Chocolate Spice Butter Frosting recipe from the same cookbook, which really makes the cake special: 1/2 c soft butter, 2 oz melted unsweetened chocolate (cool), 2 c confectioners sugar, 1/2 t cinammon, 1/4 t nutmeg, 1 1/2 t vanilla, about 2 T milk. Hope you enjoy this as much as my family and friends have over the years!

Was good. Nothing special. I used the recipe for vanilla frosting in the Red Devil's Food Cake recipe since I didn't have enough baking chocolate for this frosting. Was hoping the cake would be more moist. Would probably make again. Easy.
