Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • Your favorite toppings (ketchup, mustard, tomatoes, lettuce, dill pickle slices)

Steps

  • 1
Put the ground beef, salt and pepper in the bowl. Stir with the fork until mixed.
  • 2
Shape the beef mixture with your hands into 4 burgers. (They should be about 3/4 inch thick. Use the ruler to measure, if you like.)
  • 3
Put the burgers in the skillet. Cook over medium heat for 5 minutes. Flip burgers over, using the pancake turner. Cook for about 5 minutes longer or until burgers are no longer pink in the middle. (To check if burgers are cooked, cut into the middle of a burger with the knife.)
  • 4
Split each hamburger bun in half to make a top and a bottom. If you like, toast buns in oven (see note below). Put the burgers on the bottoms of the buns. Add your favorite toppings. Cover with the tops of the buns.

  • To toast buns - Set the oven control to broil. Put bun halves, cut side up, on a cookie sheet. Put cookie sheet in oven so tops of the buns are 4 to 5 inches from heat. Toast buns about 1 minute or until buns are light brown. Watch carefully! Use the pot holders to take cookie sheet out of oven.
  • Make Cheesy Cheeseburgers: After you flip the burgers, cook for about 4 minutes, then top each burger with 1 slice of cheese. Cook until cheese is melted.
