I feel awful giving a...what we shall call, an unkind review. This tasted like nothing but a couple pieces of french toast with cheese and bacon between them - syrup might have helped but not much. It sounded so different I just had to try it - won't make it again.

Love them, kinda like making french toast :) I like to add a few thin slices of a granny apple, don't knock it til you try it! Love the extra crunch with a sweet and tart bite!

Made these but also thought it strange to dip the hole sandwich in the batter so we just dipped and made it like french toast then melted the cheese on top and then added sandwich fixings on it. Tasted amazing the first time when we used a med/darker beer the second time we used a Corona or Bud Light can't remember which but, it was light and it didn't have very much flavor. We added pastrami, pickles, pepper jack cheese, spicy brown mustard what ever sounded good we didn't really follow the recipe after we got the batter made but, it all tasted really good

Rather than soaking the whole sandwich, brushing the batter on the bread and baking it @ 400 degrees in the oven, everything came out crispy and crunchy. I also added some honey dijon mustard afterwards for a hot, cold contrast... YUM!

It sounded odd, but since I had all the ingredients on hand, I gave it a try. Not enough stars to rate this sandwich! Whoever thought it up deserves a prize!

Made these with texas toast and used bacon pieces instead of slices. We did not care for the batter so much. It made it taste more "french toast-y". Will try again w/o batter and maybe mozz cheese instead of provolone.

We just had this for lunch. Yummy! I added dijon mustard to one slice of the bread and also added thin slices of Granny Smith apples to it. We had tomato parmesan soup with it. Great lunch!

I didn't know what "rustic white bread" was so I just bought an unsliced loaf of Italian bread from the bakery at my grocer. I cut it a bit thicker than a piece of white loaf bread, but thinner than Texas toast. I used thick sliced pepper bacon but both my husband and I agree thinner, extra crispy bacon would likely work better, even though it was still delicious. I nearly just buttered the bread instead of making the beer batter, but I will tell you this - DO NOT DO THAT! The batter is AMAZING on this grilled cheese! Easy to make, too! I'll be making this again!

I ended up using thick cut peppered bacon and sourdough bread. Personally, I think it would have been better without the beer batter. One of the slices of bread ended up a bit soggy in the middle.

This is a good easy recipe; even though the calorie count is high. Use it as a "cheat treat". I used Texas Toast; and put 2 slices of provolone and 4-5 pieces of bacon. Ate it with Texas crisper fries and a pasta salad. Thx for the easy dinner recipe!!
