RE: MackintoshLass: Sorry that you were disappointed in the flavor of this recipe. I'm sure the Better Than Bullion Beef will add more beef flavor as it is more concentrated than beef broth, but be sure to add the water to equal the amount of beef broth from the original recipe. The Mexican beans will add a nice spice kick. As heat can vary from stovetop to stovetop – there will be a slight variation in cook time.

I had some problems with this recipe; first the dumplings took WAY longer than the recipe stated.Second, it was bland. Next time I am going to use Better Than Bullion Beef with water, and I am going to use Mild Mexican beans to spice it up a bit.

I got the newsletter yesterday and made the Beef Cassoulet w/Herb Dumplings. I cooked some brown rice and added it to the dish. Also made the dumplings. We loved it. Will make again.

I TRIED THIS RECIPE FOR THE FIRST TIME TODAY. I DOUBLED IT AND AS IT COOKED, THE MXTURE SEEMED TOO THIN. I ADDED SOME CORNSTARCH, TOMATOE PASTE, AND PUREED SOME OF THE VEGGIE MIXTURE TO THICKEN IT UP. YOU HAVE TO COOK IT A LOT LONGER THAN IS INDICATED B4 ADDING THE BISQUIT MIX. AS IT TURNED OUT, THE BISQUITS WERE REALLY LIGHT AND FLUFFY. THE SOUP WAS THICK, BUT TOO TOMATOEY. I'D PROBABLY ONLY USE 2 CUPS TOMATOES THE NEXT TIME AND ADD SOME BEEF BOULLION. I'D PROBABLY ADD SOME CORN TOO. IT'S GOOD BASE RECIPE BUT NEEDS DOCTORING UP.

i made this in a crunch. i had no dinner ideas, and came across this recipe. i didn''t have the beans or the celery at home, but i made it anyhow. it turned out great. i do make my own bisquick mix at home using dry powder milk, so i used water instead of milk to make my bisquik mix.thanks for helping me out with dinner tonight!

This recipe is so easy. My whole family enjoyed it. A friend came over after the soup was refrigerated and loved it warmed up. Try it. You and your family will love it.
