Success Tip
Carbonnade is a French term that describes any meat cooked over hot coals or directly over flames. We simplified the process by converting the dish into a slow cooker recipe.
Ingredient Substitution
If you prefer to skip the beer, use the same quantity of nonalcoholic beer, apple cider or beef broth instead. And if you can't find tomato beef oxtail soup mix at your supermarket, use a 10 3/4-ounce can of condensed tomato soup with 1 teaspoon beef bouillon granules instead.
