Ingredients

Ribs

  • 4 1/2 lb pork spareribs

Spicy Barbecue Sauce

  • 1/3 cups butter or margarine
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons water
  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • Dash of ground red pepper (cayenne)

    Heat oven to 325°F. Cut ribs into 6 serving pieces. Place ribs, meaty sides down, in shallow roasting pan, about 13x9 inches.

    Bake uncovered 1 hour.

    Meanwhile, in 1-quart saucepan, heat sauce ingredients over medium heat, stirring frequently, until butter is melted. (Or microwave sauce ingredients in 1-cup microwavable measuring cup on High about 30 seconds or until butter is melted.)

    Brush sauce over ribs, using pastry brush. Turn ribs over, using tongs, Brush meaty sides of ribs with sauce.

    Bake uncovered about 45 minutes longer, brushing frequently with sauce, until ribs are tender and no longer pink next to bones. To serve any remaining sauce with ribs, heat sauce to boiling, stirring constantly, then continue to boil and stir 1 minute.

    Use 3 lb pork country-style ribs; cut into 6 serving pieces if it is a rack of ribs. Place in 13x9-inch pan. Cover with foil; bake at 325°F for 2 hours; drain. Pour sauce over ribs. Bake uncovered about 30 minutes longer or until ribs are tender and no longer pink next to bones.

    Use 3 1/2 lb spareribs and cut into 2- or 3-rib portions. Place ribs in 5- to 6-quart slow cooker. Sprinkle with 1/2 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper; add 1/2 cup water. Cover; cook on Low heat setting 8 to 9 hours or until tender. Remove ribs. Drain and discard liquid from slow cooker. Dip ribs into sauce to coat. Place ribs in slow cooker. Pour any remaining sauce over ribs. Cover; cook on Low heat setting 1 hour.
