I keep the ingredients for this quick, yummy meal on hand for busy nights that we all want something a little indulgent. Leftovers of this for breakfast are just awesome!

Quick and tasty, I have substituted ground turkey - tastes fine. Also instead of instant potatoes put in a couple of cubed cooked poatoes.

This recipe was great! Nice change from the standard Shepherd's Pie recipes. I used Baby Ray's Rasberry Chipotle BBQ sauce. Excellent! I also tried it with the boxed potatoes & using homemade mashed adding cheddar cheese & bacon. Prefer it with homemade.

My family really liked this. it came together fast. next time I think I'll just make mashed potatoes myself and not use the box. the servings seemed small (but I have two growing boys). Next time I'll double it.

Lots of shortcuts that we can take here. I used ground chicken, and a few other -low fat items-. Was able feed 8 on somewhat of a "reduced fat diet". Awesome recipe!

High in fat, high in sugar, doesn't even have half a veggie exchange. Really folks, it may taste good (so does fried twinkies on a stick), but it could be a lot better for your family. You can make something similar and good very quickly without all the pre-packaged low nutrient ingredients. Teach your children to eat without adding cheese to every recipe, include more vegetables, leave out the butter and artificial flavors!

my whole family LOVED this, even my 3.5 year who "hates mashed tatoes"!! We used cheddar & sour cream potatoes but still really tasty!

To the meat mixture - I added some shredded carrots, doubled the green onions and would probably just use a regular can of corn and chop up my own red peppers. The instant potatoes were better than I would have thought plus VERY quick (under 5 mins) & inexpensive ($1 a pkg). I was surprised that lightly salted Fritos are not that bad of a chip for you – 8g of good fats with only 1.5g saturated per serving and no preservatives - just corn, corn oil and salt. It’s not a true shepherd’s pie but is a good tasting, inexpensive, quick meal!

Gee, I know so many people use beef and call it "Shepherd's" pie, but a shepherd watches over sheep, not cows. This is Cowboy's Pie with a potato topping. I use lamb (the least expensive cut available) brown the meat with a hearty stout (Guinness) for a lovely glaze to the meat and nice stock base. Afterwards, continue to slow cook with your favorite stew vegetables. The topping is Mash (potatoes cooked with leeks and mashed) or colcannon (potatoes cooked with cabbage; then separate the two, mash the potatoes, then fold in the cabbage.)
