Very easy to make and had very good flavor, though we thought it average for french toast and not particularly outstanding thus the 3 spoon rating. It didn't remind me of Bananas Foster though, especially with merely being topped by uncooked bananas. I used honey oat bread and added spices; mixed in the bananas and topped it with the pecans just before baking. If I make it again, I'd add vanilla to the egg mixture.
As far as it's comparison to bread pudding, while this recipe [and most other baked french toast recipes] is similar it certainly isn't the same. Bread pudding has lots more liquid compared to bread so that it cooks into a thick creamy mass. These overnight fench toast recipes are definitely more bread and not nearly as creamy as bread pudding.
